Dr. Tanya Shirman is leading the materials and chemistry sensor and filter developments. She originally joined Prof. Joanna Aizenberg’s Group in September 2012 and co-founded the air cleaning startup Metalmark Innovations, where she developed the technology (2017-2025). She received her BSc degree in Chemistry from Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Then she moved to Rehovot where she obtained her MSc degree in Chemistry (Thesis: Photoinduced Deprotection and Patterning of Siloxane-Based Monolayers) and PhD degree (Thesis: Halogen Bonding: a New Supramolecular Entry for Assembling Organic and Hybrid Metal-Organic Materials in Solution and on Surfaces) from the Department of Organic Chemistry, the Weizmann Institute of Science, under the supervision of Prof. Milko E. van der Boom.
