Mia's ES100 Project Highlighted by Harvard SEAS
For her ES100 Senior Capstone Project, Mia focused on upcycling waste wool for use in building cladding panels. This works seeks to 1) push the boundaries on sustainable building materials and 2) tackle the problem of ~ 1 billion kilograms of wool wasted per year, for example from sheared sheep at farms and discarded wool at textile mills. Unlike wool used for insulation, wool for the building facade requires processing. Mia and her mentors worked out a processes to extract keratin fibers from the wool and then to use those as structural materials for the building cladding.
Mia worked with Len and Jonathan on this project. Check out the SEAS story here: https://seas.harvard.edu/news/mia-montroses-senior-project-building-panels-made-waste-wool
