Zachary Kons, MD is an Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery resident at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School residency program. He completed medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University, where his research focused on the neural correlates of olfaction. Zach now aims to explore a self-administered otic drop method for delivering sodium thiosulfate (STS) to prevent cisplatin-induced hearing loss. Using oil-infused, geometrically optimized tympanostomy tubes, he will assess STS delivery through in vitro testing and in vivo evaluation in a chinchilla model, aiming to preserve hearing without compromising cisplatin’s antitumor efficacy or requiring intratympanic or IV drug administration.
