Uniformly nanoscale texture

Fig. 2: Uniformly nanoscale texture can be created directly on a wide range of surfaces by a simple reaction that produces nanocrystalline metal oxides, such as aluminum oxy hydroxide, boehmite (AlO(OH)), with many options for varying the crystalline properties and photopatterning the surface. These surfaces maintain a smooth liquid interface and slippery performance under extreme shear forces, compared to others based on microscale or hierarchical roughness.
