Materials for Medicine

Several projects in the group aim to target clinical challenges. We employ SLIPS coatings on medical devices to prevent their fouling and for controlled drug delivery. Stimuli-responsive gels can be employed for stimulated drug delivery as well as serving as a protective layer during surgery. A third project, aims to deliver drugs into cells using lasers to temporarily disrupt the cell memberane. These projects all involve a combination of fundamental materials science, chemistry, and physics principles as well as simulation  (e.g. fluid dynamics, heat transfer, optical fluence) and clinical components (e.g. animal studies).
